bi-monthly wrap up

In Books and Other Things // May-Jun

I am terribly late, but I felt like it would be a good idea to catch up on my posts and go back to see how I’ve fared through the middle of the year.

WORDS I READ

2,343

  • Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman [4/5]
  • Lords & Ladies by Terry Pratchett [5/5]*
  • LIFEL1K3 by Jay Kristoff [4.5/5]
  • A Great & Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray [3/5]
  • Want by Cindy Pon [4.5/5]
  • Tiny, Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra & Dhonielle Clayton [3/5]

I was quite happy with how thanks to the #1KBE Reading Challenge organised by Aentee and Lit CelebrAsian I was able to discover some amazing books and short stories written by Asians. While I was unable to complete the challenge due to my brother falling ill, I did discover the gem that was Want by Cindy Pon and have been inspired to actively search out more Asian fantasy in the latter part of this year!

There were no worst books; AGATB getting 3 stars for its portrayal of POC in general and TPT got 3 stars because it wasn’t my type of book.

Nevertheless, I need to stress that both books hit rather close to home with how they depicted girls out to get other girls, especially since I was a secondary school athlete who suffered many of those ‘toxic best friendships.’ I am heartened to see that the modern girl is growing up to support and uplift their sisters, instead.

Best book was Lords & Ladies, thank you Ekho! ❤

WORDS I WROTE

10,525

I have been on fire with regard to writing and my Sleeping Beauty WIP in retrospect, because from what I recall, I was rather down in the months of May and June as I struggled to write.

Which goes to show how you make make miracles by taking it all one day at a time.

NOTABLE BLOG POSTS

I honestly cannot remember as I was slaving at my book the whole time.

DRAMA RECOMMENDATIONS
